Trauma-Informed Counselling in Burnaby

Cory Stevens | Registered Clinical Counsellor

I offer ADHD-friendly, trauma-informed therapy for individuals and queer-affirming relationship counselling, including support for consensual non-monogamy (CNM). Sessions are available in person in Burnaby and online across British Columbia.

We all walk unique paths in life. The way forward is long and uncertain, and it’s easy to lose our way. I named my practice Lantern Path in honour of even the smallest sources of light that guide us on the journey. If you feel lost and alone sometimes, I’m here to share the light of my lantern and help you get in touch with your own.

Hi! I’m Cory. I’m a registered clinical counsellor with over a dozen years of experience in helping professions.

My counselling approach is gentle, trauma-informed, and flexible to your needs. I’m passionate about counselling, and I’d love to meet and talk about how my approach could fit you.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, identity issues, grief and loss, relationship challenges, or life transitions, I am here to support you with warmth and care.

Trauma-Informed, ADHD-Friendly & Queer-Friendly Individual Therapy

I offer one-on-one therapy that is trauma-informed, neurofriendly, and inclusive of all LGBTQIA2S+ identities. Many of the people I work with feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or pressured to fit into systems that were not built with them in mind.

Our work centers on your safety and autonomy. We move at a pace that respects your comfort and lived experience. I recognize that attention differences, identity, and trauma can deeply shape how you move through the world.

Together, we create space to understand patterns with compassion, build practical tools for regulation and clarity, and strengthen your connection to your core values and sense of self.

Monogamous and Non-Monogamous Relationship Counselling

I work with monogamous, polyamorous, open, and other CNM relationship structures. Relationship challenges show up regardless of relationship structure, and they don’t necessarily signal that something is “wrong” in the relationship. Instead, they tend to reflect unmet needs, difficulties in communication, assumptions or unspoken expectations, and nervous systems responding to the perception of threats within the relationship.

Counselling Rooted in Safety and Psychological Flexibility

My approach to counselling is gentle, collaborative, and grounded in nervous system awareness. I work from a trauma-informed lens, which means we move at a pace that feels safe and manageable. Together, we pay attention not only to thoughts, but also to the body, emotions, and patterns that have helped you survive.

I draw from polyvagal theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and person-centered counselling. This means we focus on building steadiness in your nervous system, strengthening psychological flexibility, and reconnecting you with what matters most.

Therapy isn’t about fighting anxiety or difficult emotions. It’s about understanding how they have tried to protect you, untangling what feels overwhelming, and strengthening the resilience already within you.
